Frequently Asked Questions:
( Below are some questions from the Prepare Day at New Designers, and some sent directly to Gifted? If you're not sure about anything, just send us an email and we will try to answer your query as best as we can).
* Latest and most common questions to the Gifted/ team this year...
* Can I Register Anytime?
Absolutely! You can register right up to the closing date - 2nd August 2013.
* Do I have to submit my entry on the day of the theme?
No. You can submit at anytime during the competition, in any order you like, until the 2nd August.
* Can I enter more than once?
You can enter as many times as you like - it's free :)
* Do I have to submit a concept every day?
No. You can enter once, a few times, or cover all the themes of the competition - It's entirely up to you!
* Is it just for illustrators?
No, not at all. This competition is open to all creatives - In fact we encourage all talents and skills to enter.
* Who is eligible to enter the Gifted? competition?
The competition is only open to current students (over 18) who are studying an undergraduate or post-graduate course at a University or College, or a graduate of 2012 & 2013.
Unfortunately, we can't open up the competition to anyone who has graduated before this date or anyone who is studying an industry short course.
* What would make a winning entry?
There are a few ways to approach the competition and show your skill base to be in with a winning chance;
- You may have a 'unique style' that could be carried across all the themes, i.e. Hockney has a distinctive style but carries it across to different subject matter, still showing diversity.
- Each day you may decide to show a different side to you and your 'diverse' skill base, i.e. if you're a graphic designer, you might want to use typography one day, illustration the next, photography the next etc. etc...
Be unique, original and innovative in your approach, don't be literal, think beyond any preconceptions but keep your commercial head on. This competition will result as a range in Marks and Spencer so any images that are rude, crude or generally weird would not be suitable.
Do your research, check out our existing ranges in Marks and Spencer, we don't want to repeat what we already have - we're looking to you, the new generation of designers to inspire us.
* Do I have to enter every day?
No. It's entirely up to you. You might want to only enter once, but you would certainly increase your chances of winning if you submit several times, and show your diversity.
* Can I submit more than one design per theme?
Of course. You can enter each theme as many times as you like - but be careful, we look for quality not quantity.
* Do I have to submit my design on the actual day of the theme?
No. You can submit on the day or any day after as long as it is in the time frame of the competition. Although the last theme will be on Friday the 26th of July, the actual competition will close 7 days later at midnight on Friday the 2nd of August (00:00GMT) to allow entrants to catch up if necessary.
* Can I post my entry?
No. Gifted? is an online submission only competition. If you have created your masterpiece using a non digital medium, you will have to scan or photograph it and submit this via the website. Again, please make sure it follows the submission criteria mentioned above.
* Can I post my entry(s) onto my Blog or Website?
With regards to posting your designs online, we would prefer you didn't until the competition is over and judging has been finalised. Due to our special relationship with M&S, we need to keep potential concept ideas strictly confidential. This will ensure our up and coming designs stay unique to Tigerprint.
* How do I name my files for uploading?
We ask you to submit your entry file(s) with your name and theme in the filename.
For example: firstname_lastname_theme.jpg
This will save any confusion, ensure that your name is against the correct entry and will help us to group entries accurately.
We must insist you use this format, as entries that we cannot categorize by theme or name will be void. We hope you understand.
* Do you have to live in the UK to enter?
Not at all. Gifted? is a global competition open to everyone. However, we will not be able to honor the placement part of the prize for global entries due to budget limitations.
* Will you be at New Designers this year?
Yes. The Competition Team, headed up by Janine Burrows, will be launching the Gifted? competition at the New Designers Exhibition on Wednesday 26th June.
The Competition stand (S2) will be there for both Part 1 & 2 of the exhibition.
Part 1: 26th June - 29th June.
Part 2: 3rd July - 6th July.
Please feel free to come along and say hello, and find out more about the Gifted? competition. If you are unable to make it down to London, keep an eye on the News section the FAQs here for any important updates.
* Why do I have to create an account?
We learnt some lessons from last years Gifted? competition. By asking you to create a Gifted? account on the website, we are able to match names and submissions a lot easier, without the need for extra admin work.
Please Note: If you are eligible to sign up for the competition again this year, you can use your log on details from last year - However, I will need to know if this is the case to make sure you have acces to the correct area of the website. Please use the email address at the bottom of the page.
* I'm having trouble accessing my account, what can I do?
If you are having issues logging in, please let me know by emailing Gifted at the email address at the bottom of the page. By doing so I can reset your account, and 99.9% of the time this fixes the problem.
* Do I have to register?
Yes. Without this your entry will not be counted. You can register on the day we launch.

Even though the daily themes will end on the 26th July, the deadline for registering will be the same as the entry deadline - 2nd August 2013 at midnight (00:00GMT).
* Does the design need to be for a specific occasion / theme?
No - so let your creativity flow.
* Can the entry be any size?
